KX Foodbank: Over 400 food packages delivered

Kings Cross Foodbank has been up and running since the end of April, and we’ve been blown away by generosity of time, money, and donations from people in our congregation, community and beyond. We’ve managed to deliver over 400 food packages to those in need in our local area.

We have had over 40 incredible people volunteering with the Foodbank since it began and we are so thankful, it really wouldn’t be possible without them!

Over the summer as people take well deserved breaks, our volunteer teams will likely become a bit thin on the ground. We’re calling for anyone who has time to give, either on-site in North London, remotely on the referrals team making phone calls, or delivering food parcels by bike, car or moped! Fill in the application form and we’ll be in touch.

Recently, we gathered together some of the encouraging stories to come out of conversations over the phone, during food drop offs and while serving on-site. Here is what the volunteers have to say:

"The donations from the individuals of Pentonville Prison, both the guards and the inmates, still strikes me even a week out. Unpacking those donations with the rations, and all the individually packaged bags of cereal, tea, and milk, it really hit me just how important this is and how it needs to be heard. I can't help but think of the passage in Mark 12:41-44 of the widow with nothing putting in the two small copper coins and donating all she had to the temple treasury. For those with so little to give all they have, I can't think of a better example of the kingdom breaking out into our community in Islington."

"One guy [foodbank recipient], I've been able to get to know a little, having a chat about chess, football and what’s going on in the world. He asked [us] to pray for his father. We have been praying for him, his father is getting better."

"I have particularly enjoyed speaking to one client on the phone who has been struggling with really tough times but reading the Bible and finding strength in this. They have shared with me Bible verses that have encouraged them and we have been able to chat about it and talk about prayer requests. Another client earlier on shared with me that they were looking for a job - we spoke about it each week and by the last week that I spoke to them they had a new job. It was a great phone call to end on!"
